ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 Review: "A revolution in comfort? Absolutely."

I started running again in March 2019, deciding to join a local running club to help with training for a couple of half marathons that I had booked to do later that year… A summer of local 10Ks, evening league and many a club run later, I somehow managed to find myself the lucky winner of the Club ballot place for the London Marathon 2023.

First impressions

I was fortunate to receive a pair of the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 before my training for the London Marathon, with a 16-week training plan and the fear of the 26.2 miles, I didn’t know much about marathon running but I did know that comfort would be key…

From the moment I unboxed the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25, I was impressed by their newly updated, sleek design. With vibrant colours and FF Blast PLUS Foam stacking higher than before, I couldn’t wait to put them on and test them out on my marathon training runs!

Fit and width

When they say a revolution in comfort, they weren’t wrong. The pairing of memory foam in the heel, and the stretchy knit upper and tongue, perfectly locks in your foot without compromising on flexibility or breathability. The pull-tab gave easy and functional in-step, whilst still looking stylish and modern.

Cushioning & Responsiveness

I tested out the Gel-Nimbus on various runs, from Sundays long miles to race day ready at Thirsk 10-mile road event. The FF BLAST ECO Foam and AHAR outsole exceeded my expectations. Balancing the soft cushioning with high energy return, giving me exactly what I needed to show up for my final 24-mile-long run and finish with a smile on my face.

Levelling it up on race day, the responsiveness now showed up for me, giving me an efficient toe-off that propelled me forward in each step, and finishing with a 10-mile PB! When it came to marathon day and the heavens were opening, the outsole showed up for me once again, giving a superior grip that made striding through the puddles an effortless experience (from someone who hates running in the rain).

ASICS are renowned for their visible gel, this latest update features the newly updated PureGEL technology hidden inside the cushioning. Feeling a slight hesitation towards this updated structure that gives ASICS their comfort credibility, but oh how I was wrong. A cloud-like feel in-every step is something I cannot disagree with, the PureGel technology placed in the latter of the underfoot kept each step feeling soft, even after 25 miles in the marathon when my legs were definitely feeling heavy…

Overall performance

A revolution in comfort? Absolutely. ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 is the perfect combination of unparalleled comfort, cloud-like cushioning, and a fit that locks in the energy on every run. This shoe was exactly what I needed to push past my longest-ever runs, reach new PBs and get my finishers photo with my feet and smile intact. For anyone looking for a pair of running shoes for a leisurely jog, long miles or marathon day, I would recommend the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25. I can honestly say that Nothing Feels Better.
